John Atkinson blankets are manufactured by AW Hainsworth in a traditional Yorkshire woollen mill in Pudsey near Leeds. The Hainsworth story is the history of one of the oldest companies in the United Kingdom. The company traces is routes back to the late 18th Century when in 1783 Abimelech Hainsworth started his clothiers business.
Today the company claims to manufacture "England's Finest Blankets" in their Yorkshire mill. However, as A W Hainsworth holds the Royal Warrant for furnishing supplies to HM Queen Elizabeth II and also supplies numerous royal households throughout Europe and the Middle East, it's clearly no idle claim.
Without doubt, the two most popular blankets we have supplied over the past few years are the John Atkinson Duchess Merino blanket and the John Atkinson Atkincel wool cellular blanket. The Duchess Merino blanket is made from fine Merino wool which is beautifully soft and very luxurious. It's a lovely medium weight merino blanket and is available in a full range of sizes from Single to Super King Size. The Duchess range is available in in wool white, Champagne, powder pink, Alaskan blue, camel, navy and cherry. The Atkincel blanket has a fine soft loft and its cellular weave traps air and retains warmth while offering a reduced weight compared to a solid weave blanket. This means it is great as a light summer blanket over a sheet, or as a layering blanket for maximum warmth in the winter. The Atkincel blanket is available in a creamy Wool White. Champagne, Powder Pink and Alaskan Blue. It comes bound all round with satin binding.
